The VIP Room Cookbook...

How's Your Rhubarb?, a book of memories and recipes by Lou Richardson, the Mom at VIP, is on sale at the VIP cashier's counter for $15 (including tax).  Orders for shipping can be placed by emailing her at jerrylou@cableone.net.  Add $2.50 per copy for mailing.

The cookbook actually does have a number of rhubarb recipes, but the title refers to Lou's efforts to change the subject from an upsetting or uncomfortable conversational topic to something more pleasant.  She assumes everyone in North Dakota has something to say about the rhubarb.

How's Your Rhubarb?
Tales of Food
And of a family that enjoys cooking
Plus lots and lots of recipes

Lou Richardson

Lou retired in 1993 after teaching journalism at North Dakota State University for 27 years.  She joined VIP owner Gordy Richardson as he started his catering business that year.  Over the years, Lou compiled some 650 recipes she had collected from her years growing up in Cresbard, South Dakota, and from feeding a husband (Jerry) and five children.

Many of the recipes are family-sized versions of some of the dishes served at VIP. Alas, the recipe for Tomato Basil Soup, so popular with VIP customers, is only Lou's version. It's fairly close to the VIP soup, but you'll still have to come to VIP for the real thing.

Now in its fourth printing, How's Your Rhubarb? is the 2007 recipient of the National Federation of Press Women's first-place award in its cookbooks communication contest division.
